Why Do Girls Get Pimples?

Acne happen because of overactive oil glands at the base of hair follicles, which are a cause of hormonal changes during adolescence. Skin cells can “plug” skin pores causing “whiteheads” and, with pigment, “blackheads.”

A “pimple” is an oil gland that is infected with bacteria, resulting in an inflamed area with pus formation. Acne is not caused by eating oily foods, soft drinks, or chocolate. Likewise, acne does not indicate that the teen’s face is too dirty. Although there is no true “cure” for acne, proper skin care, skin gel, oral antibiotic, and other oral medications are available to control it.

Four factors cause acne:

Harmones undergoing a drastic change in the body during the teen years cause the oil glands to become overactive.
Family background or heredity plays an important role.
If the skin cells that line the oil glands or pores are present in large numbers, they stick together, clogging the openings to the pores, leading to whiteheads or blackheads.
Bacteria thrive on this oil from oil glands growing readily beneath the skin cells and leading to infection. This produces redness and pus formation. Squeezing or “popping”.

Acne increases before or during their menstrual periods, as a result of the increased harmones present at this time. Stress and tension can induce acne flare-ups.Acne is a condition of the skin that shows up as different types of bumps. These bumps can be blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, or cysts.

Clogged pores that open up very deep in the skin can cause nodules, which are infected lumps or cysts that are bigger than pimples and can be painful. Occasionally, large cysts that seem like acne may be boils caused by a staph infection. That doesn’t happen often, though.
