Face massage for youthful healthy skinFace massage is one of the options for youthful looking and healthy skin especially for those are 40 years old and above.  In fact, face massage can reduce unattractive fleshiness, tighten facial tissues and muscles, reduce overall stress and increase blood circulation.  It is also an enjoyable experience to do face and body massage.

Besides other natural skin care tips, face massage is an effective way to counter wrinkles and improve your overall skin appearance.  Its results are especially obvious when you do face massage continuously for a period of time.  While it is not a magic potion which can bring a change overnight, one has to be patient with it.

Face Massage Procedure

Face massage is something that can be easily done at home and it only takes about 20 to 30 minutes to make your skin feel better.  The important part of any face massage is doing it at a comfortable place with a calm mind.  As the results are better if your body is relaxed and your mind is calm, you need to find a quiet place in your home where you won’t be disturbed when you do face massage.

Face massage is effective only if the skin is clear.  Make sure to remove contact lenses and glasses, and all traces of make-up if you wear them otherwise skin pores will be blocked by particles of dirt.  Clean your face with your skin care products and do exfoliation to remove dead cells.  If the skin is oily, then remove oiliness by applying cleansing lotion.  Fresh lemon juice is also very effective in removing excess oiliness besides your skin care products.  If your skin is dry, use a good moisturizer before do face massage.

After cleaning your skin, put small amount of face massage oil or lotion on your hands and start to massage face and neck area in circular motion using your index finger.  Press it with light but firm fingers, putting a little pressure while applying a good cream. Trained fingers can hold the skin firmly and apply even pressure.

Basically, massage should start from the neck upwards and end at the forehead or temples because all veins and tissues get an increased blood supply by this process.  As the skin around the eyes is delicate, it is advisable to apply cream on this part without pressing it. In addition, massage cream takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get absorbed by the skin, so face massage should continue that long for optimal results.  After the massage, wipe off extra cream with a cotton wool swab soaked in water, preferably rose water.  The best time to have face massage is before going to bed.

Face Massage Method

Slow Massage:  Slow massage is the most common method of body and face massage. The secret is to massage slowly and pat or vibrate the skin.  Using the fleshy part of your finger tips, press the skin lightly but firmly. The process starts at the base of the neck at a slow speed.  The speed increases as the fingers move upwards.  Stroking gives rest to the nerves and the vibration is useful in subduing pain that might be caused by massaging.

Fast Massage:  The front half of both the palms is used to have face massage at speed, taking care to make a circular motion upwards.

Pinching Massage:  The skin is held, as in pincers, between the thumb and fingers. Such a face massage is effective for a double chin and wrinkles on the jaw.

Pressure Massage:  This is a method when pressure is applied by finger-tips. This is effective especially for removing pouches beneath eyes.

Friction Massage:  The movement requires pressure on the skin while it is being moved over the underlying structures. Fingers or palms are employed in this movement.  Hard movements are usually employed on the scalp while light movements are used on the face especially on the neck.

Stroking Massage:  This is the method where chubby cheeks are stroked with the tips of fingers. If the nose is broad, strokes are applied from the nose to the temples on both sides.

Piano Playing Movements:  This exercise develops facial muscles and makes them firm. It should be done on the entire face, especially the cheek area, with your fingers. The movements must be supple yet brisk during the face massage.

Face massage can help preventing new lines from forming by toning up the muscles and nourishing them.  Remember, whether you have a lumpy, flabby, withered or sallow skin, your face can regain the appearance of youth under the action of your own fingers through face massage over a period of time.  Of course, it would be an extra advantage if you use premier skin care products such as ageLOC and always use skin care products based on your skin concern.
