Acne Solutions
Dealing with acne regardless of age is a struggle. But you can stop agonizing over acne, and start treating your condition with any of the following successful acne treatments:
1. Benzoyl peroxide is an anti-bacterial agent available in cream and gel. Benzoyl peroxide kills P. Acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. There is also a mild drying and peeling effect which is thought to help prevent breakouts. About 3% of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide and experience an inflammation of the skin or severe crusting. If you experience any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor and discontinue use.
2. Trentoin or Retin-A is retinoic acid and Vitamin A acid combined, and comes in various strengths in creams, gels, and liquids for use on the skin. It is used to treat acne and is thought to help unplug follicles and keep pores clear. Because it brings pimples to the surface, your skin may get worse before it gets better. Exposure to sunlight should be minimized as you may be more sensitive to its rays. Side effects can include skin irritation, including excessive redness or crusted and blistered skin.
3. Sulfur-based acne treatments are anti-bacterial agents that may be combined with other acne fighting agents (i.e. salicylic acid). Sulfur-based acne products may cause irritation such as redness and peeling of the skin. This is a result of the natural shedding of the skin that helps reduce the acne.
4. Salicylic acid is a key ingredient in many skin acne products. It is a mild acid that works to encourage the sloughing of dead skin cells and help unclog pores to resolve and prevent lesions. As a result, this may lead to dryness and in some cases irritation.
5. Adapalene or Differin is a retinoid-like topical medication used to treat mild to moderate acne. Differin is less irritating than topical retinoids, but can still cause side effects such as dryness, irritation, and itching. You should also avoid sun exposure since it may worsen the irritation.
